On this 'simplicity of essences'
These fragments examine the agency of the image in the neo- functionalist regulative repertoire, in particular, the technique of multiculture, situated here within a post-Fordist displacement of the organicist episteme (race and culture) and the further penetration of regulation into a dimension Julia Kristeva terms the semiotic chora. It is argued that as a strategy of subtle social intervention, multiculture effects a regulation via the Freudian sign intrinsic to the chora, and the comforts of motherhood. This precedes, but is grouped with, the thetic positionality of the mirror phase and the child's identification with the order of representations and images. The last sections of the essay look at the interplay of pathologies of culture, space and urban policy, and detail the spatial anxieties and processes of exclusion defined by multiculture and racism's poststructuralist critics >>

London and the 2012 Olympics
Starkly, the Olympics are an interpellation of post-Fascist regularity, the disciplinary subject imposed through state violence, corporate sponsorship and gender 'enhancement'; and remediated (and expanded) by Blairite experiments in labour market and social regulation, acutely spatial phenomena. Project Mimique has compiled several press briefing papers for anti-Olympic campaigns No London 2012 and its later incarnation, Games Monitor.

Biopolitical regulation of the Shoreditch late-night economy
In South Shoreditch, planning operates with a disciplinary rationale, predicated on a policing of the norm, and bolstered by the spectre of public nuisance and moral hazard which define the interpretive index of proposals.

Trial by space; in memory of my mother
Such a loss is uncommunicable. One cannot talk to the bereaved because they suffer from the closures of their own distress, which states its magnitude. The non-bereaved hold loss in contempt, as self-indulgent. The medics focus on symptoms alone. The upshot is that, outside of therapy, one is never allowed to speak >>

In search of truth where it had never been: A critique of public consultation in urban planning
Hackney Council's LDF Statement of Community Involvement stands as a measure of professional performance, it defers to a 'calculable technology' (Rose), and as such attempts to render expertise governable. Populace are rationalised as 'community' rather than 'civil society', a strategic choice of New Labour government, and one implicated in the closure of conflict >>
